Irewolede LCDA kicks off Armed Forces Remembrance Day with Church Service

… As Council Boss Calls for Greater Support for Nigerian Legion

The management of Irewolede Local Council Development Area of Ekiti State has held a church service to mark 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The service which took place at St. James’ Anglican church, Iloro-Ekiti, had in attendance the Executive Chairperson of the Council, Hon. (Mrs) Dupe Bakare, vice chairman, Hon. Samson Kolawole, Secretary, Hon. Adebo Adewale and Special Adviser to the council on Education, Hon. (Mrs) Modupe Adewale.

Also in attendance are the Director of Community Services, Elder Moses Aniyikaiye, Director of Environment, Mrs Mercy Ayileke and members of Nigerian Legion, Irewolede LCDA chapter.

Hon. Bakare who was the special guest of honour at the church service, took the first reading, taking from the book of Isaiah, chapter 61, verses 1-11.

While addressing the Congregants, Hon. Bakare congratulated members of the Nigerian Legion for witnessing another Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration saluted their courage, patriotism and selfless sacrifices for the nation and requested citizens to recommit themselves to the well-being and the mandate of the legion.

The council boss said the commemorative church service is not only to honour gallant officers of armed forces who have died but also to appreciate and pray for those who are still on the battlefront to protect the country and her territory against external aggression.

Bakare urged Nigerians to prioritize support for families of fallen heroes and those incapacitated during wars.

“Let us remember the sacrifices of these gallant officers who have laid down their lives so that we may live in peace and harmony”.

Hon. Bakare also appreciated leaders of St. James’ Anglican Church, Iloro-Ekiti for allowing them to hold the service in the church.

In his sermon, Rev. Olubunmi Fatoba emphasized the need for love, unity and peace among citizens and called on the legion to bring their wealth of experience to bear in the security of their immediate environment.

Prayers were offered for the repose of the fallen heroes, family left behind and the nation at large.

Chairman of Nigerian Legion, Irewolede LCDA chapter, Elder Sunday Ajayi thanked Hon. Bakare for her consistent support for members of the legion.

The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration serves as an avenue for honouring falling heroes who laid down their lives in service of humanity during the First and Second World War, the Nigeria Civil War, Peace support and various internal security operations.
