The executive Chairperson of Irewolede Local Council Development Area Council of Ekiti State, this Wednesday presided over the November Edition of Security and Intelligence Commitment meeting.
The meeting which took place at the Chairperson’s office was attended by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Samson Kolawole, the Oluloro of Iloro-Ekiti who is also the Chairman of Irewolede council of traditional rulers, HRM Oba James Olugbesoye, Director of Administration, Mr Oladele Olutoyin and representatives of security agencies from Nigerian Police, Department of State Security (DSS), Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps(NSCDC), Peace Corps, Amotekun Corps, Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Agro Marshall and Nigeria Hunters.
In her opening remarks, Hon. Bakare commended the security officers for their efforts to ensure the security of lives and properties across the LCDA.
With the prevailing security situation in the country and the proximity of the LCDA to Kwara state, the council boss enjoined the security agencies to beef up security in the boundary communities in order to prevent infiltration of criminal elements into the LCDA.
Bakare also called on residents to be security-conscious and report any strange faces in their vicinity to the security agencies.
She also assured the security officers that efforts are ongoing to procure more security equipment in order to boost their operations.
In his contribution, the Oluloro of Iloro-Ekiti, Oba James Olugbesoye, called on security agencies to partner with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and embark on a sensitisation tour across communities to enlighten residents against the use of fireworks during this Yuletide season to ensure safety and security.
Corroborating the Monarch, Hon. Bakare explained the dangers inherent in the use of fireworks, otherwise known as knockouts or bangers.
She said the sound of fireworks can create panic and provide cover for criminal activities, making it difficult to distinguish between fireworks and actual gunshots.
She therefore called on parents and guardians to talk to their children about the use of fireworks during this Yuletide season.
Speaking one after the other, the security agents said the month under review was peaceful across the LCDA and assured that they would intensify efforts in providing adequate security for the citizens.
