The Irewolede Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has called for stronger collaboration among security agencies to consolidate peace and security across its six communities.
The Executive Chairperson of the council, Hon. (Mrs.) Dupe Bakare, made the call while presiding over the September edition of the LCDA’s Security and Intelligence Committee meeting on Tuesday.
Bakare, in her welcome address, commended the security agencies for their commitment and dedication to protecting lives and property within the council, urging them to remain vigilant and proactive in the discharge of their duties.
She stressed the need for sustained synergy among the agencies, saying concerted efforts were required to prevent criminal activities and maintain the peaceful atmosphere in the LCDA.
The council boss also directed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to intensify road-safety sensitisation in schools across the LCDA, particularly educating pupils and students on the need to remain traffic-conscious while going and coming from school.
Bakare further appealed to herdsmen operating across the six communities not to harbour criminal elements, urging them to immediately report strange or suspicious herders to the appropriate security agencies.
In their separate reports, representatives of the various security agencies said the month under review had been relatively peaceful across the LCDA.
They also reported successful bush combing operations conducted in different parts of the council, describing the exercises as part of their efforts to prevent criminal activities and sustain peace.
However, the representative of the Department of State Services (DSS) called for improved security infrastructure in public schools across the LCDA.
The DSS representative urged the state government to construct perimeter fences around all public primary and secondary schools, install solar-powered security lights and employ security guards to strengthen surveillance and protect school communities.
The meeting was attended by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Samson Kolawole; Secretary, Hon. Adewale Adebo; Head of Local Administration (HLA), Mr. Babatunde Vincent; and Director of Administration, Mr. Olatoye Oladele.
Also in attendance were representatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Hunters, Vigilante and Agro Marshals.
