The September edition of the Irewolede Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Security and Intelligence Committee Meeting was held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at the Council Secretariat Conference Room, Iloro-Ekiti, with a renewed call for security operatives to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property across the council area.
The Executive Chairman of Irewolede LCDA, Hon. (Mrs.) Dupe Bakare, welcomed and appreciated the security operatives and members of the council’s management team for their continued commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of residents across the six communities that make up the council area.
Reports presented by the various security agencies on security developments during September indicated that there was relative peace across the six communities, despite a few crises that occurred during the period. The incidents were, however, brought under control through the intervention of the relevant security authorities.
During the meeting, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) disclosed that motorcycles operating without functional headlights had been apprehended and handed over to the appropriate security authorities. The riders were reportedly instructed to repair their motorcycle headlights before the motorcycles could be released to them, as part of efforts to prevent road accidents and promote public safety.
Attention was also drawn to the need to educate students of Iloro/Ayetoro High School who had received bicycles on the proper use of the road. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer at the meeting was urged to provide the students with the necessary road safety education, particularly on bicycle handling and responsible road use.
In response, the FRSC officer pledged to consult with the relevant school authorities to ensure that the students receive appropriate guidance on road safety and the responsible use of their bicycles.
Addressing the security operatives, Chairman Bakare charged them to remain vigilant, proactive and committed to their duties, particularly as the council approaches the election period and the end-of-year festivities, when increased movement and public activities may present additional security challenges.
She emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration, intelligence sharing and timely responses to emerging threats to ensure the continued protection of residents and their property throughout Irewolede LCDA.
Present at the meeting were the Secretary to the Council, Hon. Adebo Adewale; the Head of Local Administration (HLA), Mr. Babatunde Vincent; and the Director of Administration, Mr. Oladele Olutoyin.
Security agencies and formations represented at the meeting included the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Amotekun Corps, Peace Corps,Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Agro Marshals and the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS).
The meeting reaffirmed the council administration’s commitment to working closely with security agencies and other stakeholders to sustain peace, strengthen public safety and protect lives and property across the six communities of Irewolede LCDA.
